WT Mom's Fashion Tips - Stay Under the Radar
THE WHITE TRASH MOM HANDBOOKExcerpt from Chapter 4 - "The Zen of the White Trash Mom"
It’s hard to say “no” when you get put on the spot if someone asks you to help with the latest fundraiser or committee. My solution is to present an image to the community that says “I’m Artistic” so that you are crossed off the short lists for some of the more political type of jobs. If they don’t ask, you don’t have to say “no”.
Artistic types do not get ASKED to chair important committees. People respect and enjoy artistic types---they just don’t want them running the budgets or speaking at meetings.
Being creative is one way you are INSTANTLY set apart in the school pecking order. Creative types are asked to do the school newspaper. Or make a flyer or a poster for the bake sale. You can contribute but won’t get left running the show.
Dress for Success
Artistic Props - Get a pair of “geek” glasses if you don’t have some already. Wear the glasses to school at pick-up.
Creative Clothing -Wear “artsy” clothes like hand painted shirts, tie-dye or t-shirts with artsy messages. Nothing too radical but something that says “I’m artistic”.
Cowboy Boots - A good pair of cowboy boots can get you out of a whole bunch of meetings. Cowboy boots are funky and fun.
Other Good Props – Other props include frayed jeans, jean jackets, vintage coats----all of the things I am describing have a FLAIR for the artistic and dramatic. You don’t have to BE ARTISTIC----just look the part.
