Short of cloning yourself, you have to figure out ways to be where you need to be and try to make life work for your family.   The situation modern mothers find ourselves in is crazy.  So I have some “innovative” ways to handle some of the situations you will find yourself in as you balance work and family.

If you work in an office situation, there are coworkers and/or supervisors that love to take note of when you arrive and when you leave the office.

It doesn’t matter to these people how you perform or what work you get done during the day.  It doesn’t matter if you could still do some of this work at home via home computer. 

If you are faced with people who love to keep score of who comes in late and leaves early, use my tried and true “fake purse” idea.

1. Buy an additional purse to keep in your desk.
2. If you need to leave before the stroke of 5pm to get your children or to take someone to the doctor, leave the fake purse on your desk or hanging on your chair.
3. Have your desk a little messy and leave your desk light on. You want it to look like you are in the restroom and you’ll be right back.
   

This is an excellent way to leave work early without the time clock watchers taking note.   Please know the “purse” ploy is very effective for when you need to leave ½ hour early but doesn’t work for longer spans of time.  For that you need a solution with a little more imagination.
